Trust me, we know all about this as we experienced it too! Imagine how much trouble we had setting up our new servers when it comes like this right out of the box. One servers wouldn't even talk to one another at first, and we got errors just trying to do Windows Update! In Microsoft's favor though, it is better to start with more rather than less security. To do effective eCommerce, you will need to reduce most of these security controls.

Here's what to do. For starters, click 'Tools... Internet Options... Advanced' and clear that nutty 'Show Friendly HTTP error Messages' box (and check or uncheck any other boxes that make sense to you, such as 'Notify When Downloads Complete') and OK back out. That will allow IE to tell you what's really going on when it encounters a problem or event instead of giving you the same 'no real info' error msg all the time.

Next, click 'Tools... Internet Options... Security and select 'Internet' then click 'Custom Level...' and select 'Medium' from the drop-down box and go back to work. If you still encounter problems, go back to this same place and reduce securtity further and/or, check or uncheck options that make sense to you.

It's true - getting your security settings right for ecommerce can be a bit of a bother. But again, it really is better to have more rather than less security. Think of it (and reassure yourself) as your 'education' in learning how to take care of your shoppers' security. They will thank you for your knowledge!
